My Testimony of Salvation:
“Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man” (Psalm 66:5).
Despite growing up in a pastor’s home, I was a sneaky little girl. I behaved one way at school and another way at home and church.
Late at night, I would be wide awake thinking about how my parents would not be pleased with what I was doing, but scarier than that was the haunting thought of not knowing where I would go if I stopped breathing in my sleep. I knew that the Lord could not let me into heaven with sin in my heart. I would try to make deals with God, telling Him I was too little to know better, and that I would do better in the morning.
My parents had a youth night at our home for the teenagers in our church. That night I told my dad I needed to get saved. My dad explained to me that Jesus had already died on the cross for all my sins. He told me if I just asked Jesus to forgive me, I could be free, and Jesus would save me and be my God. I then prayed, confessed by sin, and received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior.
As a seven-year-old child, I did not remember my prayer very clearly, and guilt over my past sins later caused me to doubt whether Jesus had really saved me. God used my mum who reminded me that it did not matter whether I could remember the words I had prayed. The Lord helped me to understand that He is the One I must trust with my salvation. He did indeed die for me, and I can trust that He was faithful to forgive me when I called on Him that night. He promised to save me if I called, and I did call. I did understand my desperation without Him, and He was faithful to redeem me.
Since that time, I now choose to let the Lord be my God every day, since He is God and I have asked Him to live in my heart, a heart swept amazingly clean by Him alone. I love Him for it. I deserved nothing but hell. Through His grace and mercy, I not only have gained heaven but a life of purpose here on earth with a Savior to hold me safe. Christ is my life!
“For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” (Titus 3:1-7).
